Happy Birthday Your Highness!
Yes, it's queen lizzi's birthday today (in NZ)...and I'll be celebrating it again next week in Australia.
On this Monday morning I've been reminiscing about New York by watching the 6 train on youtube:
For some weird reason, it is very cool to listen to the voice of the subway automated announcement: "This is 14th Street Union Sq. Transfer is available to the 4, 5, L, N, Q, R, and W train."
This is the train I'd take to work everyday, and home everyday. Looking back, I was very lucky to have worked in the Upper East Side and lived in Brooklyn, so I didn't have to take the older, crappier trains.
(Mind you, the crap trains run even at 4am in the morning. I remembered taking the packed A train at 4am on a Sunday morning after clubbing. There were Mexican mom's with their kid, and all sorts of other randoms at that time.)
You'd only appreciate the New York subway after you've left New York and moved somewhere else with useless public transport (i.e. Auckland).
However I still hate the G line in Brooklyn- I'm sure most New Yorkers agree.
Check out this site for quirky things said on the older, "crappier" trains where there is no automated messages, but conductors and PA systems.

Yup- that's why I love NY!
