In preparation for my stay in Sydney, I've been looking at Gumtree - the Australian equivalent of Craigslist (what would we do in a world without craigslist?!?!?)
During my time on Sydney's Gumtree, I realised this:
(1) There's not a lot of places on offer.
(2) Accommodation is expensive in Sydney.
(3) Most people don't reply to my inquiry.
Last night, I was very close to sealing a deal for a room in Bondi. I had Hilary (my friend in Sydney) to do the viewing, and paying for me. This was all suppose to be done today.....when I received a text this morning at 4am, saying the room had gone to someone else.
Apparently this was all my fault because I "fluffed" around about paying the guy. The guy wanted me to pay him immediately, but I wasn't sure if he was an internet fraudster- which is why I had Hilary.
But it seems my attempt to be safe had cause me more trouble....
While looking through more ads today, I stumbled upon this:
"Studio Apartment to share with one Aussie guy"
"...AUSSIES and EUROPEANS only............English speaking only."
"I'm pretty down to earth and nice guy, and want someone similar....."
Obviously, the "white-for-white" thing is not only restricted to gay personals, but apartments too!
I wonder if there are any "potato queens" or "sticky rice" out there in the apartment side of things?
